Washing machine reviews

How useful are these washing machine reviews?
Most washing machine reviews focus on how fast it spins, what options it has etc. But the most important decision when buying a washing machine is which make to buy?
This decision alone determines the quality of the washing machine you will get, how long it is likely to last, its reliability, and how easy it will be to buy parts and to get it repaired in the future. Only then should you start to investigate specific features. You can use Washerhelp's reviews and buying advice pages to help make this most important decision.
Washing machine manufacturers do not usually vary the quality of their washing machines. Instead, if they want to sell in a higher or lower quality band they buy up other companies and sell through a totally different brand [ Who owns who? Who really makes your washing machine. ] If a company makes quality washing machines, then all their models are usually a very similar quality. If they make flimsy washing machines then all their range will tend to be the same quality too. [related advice: If I buy a more expensive washing machine, do I get a better washing machine?]
The difference between any manufacturer's basic washing machine and their top model is not the quality, but features such as spin speeds, drums sizes and other options. So although Washerhelp's washing machine reviews are relatively small in quantity (so far), they are useful for telling you about the most important issues regarding any particular make of washing machine being reviewed.
If you find a washing machine that impresses you, then even if you can't find the exact particular model reviewed, you can look at other washing machines from this manufacturer, with similar features, and be confident that you understand what kind of washing machine you are buying.

Washing machine reviews - a repairman's point of view
There's never been so many different washing machines to buy. Why do we need so many makes of washing machine? Most of them are nothing special and extremely similar to most of their competition. In fact much of the so-called competition is just other washing machines made by the same company - often with few real differences inside.
For example, if you bought an Indesit and didn't rate it, so you then bought a Creda and didn't like that either, and then you bought a Hotpoint - you have just spent several years buying washing machines from the same company - all made to virtually the same standard with most of the parts inside the same. ( Who owns who? Who really makes your washing machine? )
Instinctively, we tend to trust what our repairman thinks about a washing machine. Most people would tend to trust their judgment over that of a salesperson in a store. After all, who knows more about the washing machine? Only the makers I would say, but they are biased. This section gives free comprehensive washing machine reviews by an experienced repairman.

My policy and intentions regarding Washerhelp's washing machine reviews
My washing machine reviews are free, and aren't trying to sell you the washing machines reviewed. However, as I developed Washerhelp it became obvious that it would be more of a useful washing machine resource if it also contained links to commercial sites where you can compare washing machine prices and specifications or buy washing machines if interested. Washerhelp's washing machine reviews were on the Internet for a couple of years before adding any such links. You will find the washing machines are not all recommended by me, and some reviews contain many criticisms which would put people off buying.
I will be honest and say that I hope people will buy through a link on Washerhelp as this helps keep the site alive and kicking at absolutely no cost to the user. Retailers pay a small commission, which they view as advertising. However, I never try to persuade you to buy. I just write my reviews to inform and it's up to you where you buy from.
